The Underwear Wars

Mar 5, 2011

Stupid, effin Days Of The Week Underwear.

I HATE YOU.  You make my life miserable.

Gabi will only wear the Wednesday underwear on Wednesday.  And Sunday on Sunday.  And when it’s Tuesday and the only underwear left says Friday, getting her little tush into Friday brings on World War III.

Me: FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE, God will not strike you dead for wearing Friday on Tuesday!

Gabi: FINE!  I just won’t wear any!

Me: Oh, HECK no.  When I was in the 3rd grade one of my classmates didn’t wear underwear and forgot and hung upside down on the monkey bars!  Do you want that to happen to YOU?  HUH?  You will wear Friday, right now!

Gabi: You are torturing me!  Why do you have to be my mommy?  I WANT A NEW MOMMY!  AND DON’T COME NEAR ME WITH FRIDAY!

How about some new friggin underwear instead, some that don’t make me want to stab myself.  As soon as I can get to Target, I’m changing them out.  So long, Days Of The Week Underwear, I can’t wait until you are gone from my life!

Oh, I can see this being a struggle at our house as well. Thankfully, I am cheap, and buy the packs of Hanes. Score one for boring mom!

Ah the awesomeness that is little girls… D-R-A-M-A. I don't blame you a bit for sending these up in flames! Good times to be had by all. That's for sure. :)

How about getting some puffy fabric paint at Wal-Mart and writing "NOT" in front of each day? ;)

LOL! Wyatt would be the same way. He freaks out when I pick out pants *without* elastic waistband. OMGosh, you'd think the world ended.

I would be getting rid of them too. I can understand where she's coming from though…

We never bought them. Good reason was when she was little we bought hair bows with days of the week names on them and she would protest different days like that. Underwear would be a horrible challenge I was afraid.
Go shopping, it will make it easier to at least have a substitute non-day-worded pair. Or, buy a second set of the days of the week ones and that way you would probably have a backup all the time of the right day. :)
Missed you posts, glad you posted.

This post is great! My mother-in-law had just asked me a few months ago if she could buy days of the week underwear for our 7 year old. I told her no and when I gave her the reason why she finally understood. Yes, the drama of girls! I have enough struggles with Natalie and her clothing…everything from the seams of her socks not feeling right to just being a girl with a skinny little waist and long legs…

LOL! And then there's Jarrah, with her comments like "A few weeks ago last night," and "next year tomorrow." :) Not so much with the calendar and time knowledge. ;)

OMG this is hilarious! I have avoided the days of the week undies specifically for this reason. I have a hard enough time when my 4 yo wants a specific princess and I can't find her. Glad to have found you via Twitter.

Gah! I made the mistake of buying those for the girl. What a nightmare. Why are kids so damn literal?

PS Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Oh so cute, and I think she gets her OCD like behaviors from her mother . . . in fact, I am kind of in awe that you would WANT her to wear the wrong day ;)

I bet you regret ever teaching her the days of the week. If I could undo the day my son learned to tell time, oh how I would…..

LOL im laughing out loud at the "I want a new mommy!" yes ma'am , I have had this conversation!!!

Been there, done that. Who needs day of the week undies, anyway?!

    Fun post! :)

Sorry, but this made me giggle. I can see my daughter being like this too since she is like this about a lot of other things. Good luck on the panty hunt.

Ok, THIS. This made me laugh. I say you "lose" those pesky dotw underwear. So sad. I found you on TRDC and even though we're supposed to comment, I can only comment on posts that I really connect to, and this was one of them. Don't look now, but I'm following you.

I had those panties when I was a child and I've been so tempted to buy them for my daughter. But you cured me of that, because she is just as anal as Gabi.

I'll dodge that disaster! ;) Thank you!

Darn schools for teaching kids to read. You could have fibbed a bit and told her it was tuesday. This will definitely make me NOT by these for my daughter!

Love it! I had those as a kid too. When my wee man was even more wee than now I bought him some days of the week onesies. At first I was anal about the days and then – because kids get dirty so fast – I gave up.

I'd love underwear for him, but he'd be anal like that too and your nightmare would become mine!

    Visiting from TRDC.

LOL!! That's hilarious!! I have all boys, so we don't have those kind of battles…I'm just happy if they have underwear on and they are the right way!!
